April 2022 meeting will NOT be on a Monday or at the North Museum.
It will be IN-PERSON on Thursday at Stager Hall on the F&M campus.
See below.
Thursday, April 21, 2022 7:00 pm
At Stahr Auditorium, Room 102, Stager Hall Science Bldg. On F&M campus
"Insects and Plants Raise Some Galling Questions" by Dr. Warren G. Abrahamson.
Many are familiar with the round ball gall found on the
stalks of the Tall goldenrod (a.k.a. late goldenrod, Solidago altissima), but few people
understand the deep, multilayered story behind these growths as well as Dr. Warren G.
Abrahamson. Dr. Abrahamson, is an emeritus plant ecologist and biology professor from
Bucknell University, where he taught for 39 years. During that time he established himself
as the nation's leading scientist studying the evolutionary complexity of the
goldenrod/gall-making insect relationship. Abe's research lab produced countless journal
publications revealing the life history intricacies of the many insect parasites that
attack goldenrods; some surprising strategies the plants have evolved to protect
themselves from these parasites; and he illuminated the role played by a variety of
predators that attack the gall insects.
Joint meeting with the
Muhlenberg Botanical
Society.
